Insertion
STEP 1: REFRESH YOUR REUSABLE DISC
Wash your hands and Flex Reusable Disc using warm water and a mild soap or cleanser.
STEP 2: PINCH IT
Pinch the disc in half, ensuring the notch on the rim is pointed upward. The catch should be below the rim, toward the ground.
STEP 3: GET READY TO INSERT
Choose a position: Sit on the toilet, squat, or put one leg up. Relax your pelvic floor and gently separate your labia with your free hand.
STEP 4: NOTCH SIDE FIRST
Use a clean finger to insert the pinched disc (notched side first) into the vaginal canal, pushing back and down toward the cervix. Push the disc as far as it can comfortably go. It may feel strange but it shouldn’t hurt.
STEP 5: CHECK YOUR PLACEMENT
Use your thumb or finger to tuck the disc upward and behind your pubic bone. If inserted properly, you should not be able to feel the disc internally (AKA with your vagina).
** Pro Tip - The Thumb Trick (for insertion)
Once you've inserted your disc into the vaginal canal and can no longer keep it pinched, use your thumb to push the disc all the way down and back towards your tailbone. Next, use your index or middle finger to prop the disc’s front rim up behind the pubic bone to hold it in place.
Mid-wear Experience - Hands Free Emptying
If Flex Reusable Disc “leaks” when you go to the bathroom, that’s okay! It’s actually one of our favourite features of the disc—also known as hands-free emptying.
When you bear down on your pelvic floor to use the bathroom, the front rim of the disc will get pushed slightly out of place, breaking the seal. This will allow some blood out into the toilet.
Once done, stand up and use a clean finger (or the thumb trick) to push the disc back up behind your pubic bone again. This will secure the disc back into place before leaving the bathroom.
Removal
STEP 6: GET READY TO REMOVE
Wash your hands. Get in a comfortable position, either sitting on the toilet or squatting in the shower. Relax your pelvic floor muscles.
STEP 7: HOOK TO REMOVE
Hook your finger (either your thumb, nail-side up, or forefinger, nail-side down) under the rim of the disc. Pull straight out, keeping the rim parallel to the floor. If needed, help push the disc out by bearing down as if you’re trying to poop.
STEP 8: EMPTY & WASH
Empty the contents into the toilet (or rinse in the shower) and repeat steps 1–5 to clean and reinsert your Flex Reusable Disc.
** Pro Tip - Is the removal messy?
While removing FLEX shouldn't be too messy to begin with, removing FLEX in the shower at the end (or beginning!) of your day can help prevent any mess at all. Go slow & steady is the way to go! Keep the disc parallel to the ground to help minimize mess.
** Pro Tip - Bear down for easier removal
To pop the rim of your Flex Reusable Disc out from behind your pubic bone, it can be helpful to engage your pelvic floor muscles. To do so, just bear down as if you were trying to poop. You don’t have to push crazy hard, just a little bit—and try to do so while you have a finger inserted so you can get ready to hook your disc and pull it out.
Note:
It is normal to experience some leaking while using the bathroom as you are bearing down on your pelvic muscles. This does not mean that your disc needs to be changed. After using the bathroom, you can re-tuck the rim behind the pubic bone to ensure that it is securely placed.
