Why should I train my pelvic floor muscles?

It is important for women to have strong and healthy pelvic floor muscles, as these keep the bladder, uterus, and bowels in their proper position. Only strong muscles can perform this task properly. By training to strengthen the pelvic floor muscles, you can prevent weakness and atrophy that can occur through various reasons such as: pregnancy, giving birth, menopause, obesity, and specific sports. It can also have a rejuvenating effect on the body in the same fashion as training any other set of muscles in the body. In case of pregnancy, a strong pelvic floor can ease delivery and fasten subsequent recovery after childbirth. For many women, il is also good to know that training of the pelvic floor can improve sensation during sex.

How To Use

Inserting

1. The Joyballs should be cleaned thoroughly after and before each use. Warm water and soap are sufficient for cleaning.

We recommend Clean 'n' Safe as a tried and tested disinfectant for use with the Joyballs (it works effectively against bacteria, fungi and viruses).

2. In a relaxed position, gently insert the Joyballs into the vagina (like a tampon). First insert the first ball and then the second ball so that the balls will be covered by the vaginal wall and you can still easily reach the retrieval loop. The use of lubricants (e.g. AQUAglide or BIOglide) - for easy and painless insertion - is recommended. 

3. The ball should sit almost vertically with the retrieval loop down.

Removal

1. Wash your hands.

2. Take optimal position for removal: preferably squat with broad legs.

3. Use your pelvic floor muscle to push the Joyballs to your vaginal opening and pull it out with pull-back loop.

How long is it recommended to wear the Joyballs?

At first, you may only be able to hold the tension for a second or two. Increase the performance to a maximum of 10 seconds. Take a break between tensions, the duration of which is at least equal to the duration of the tension (e.g. 5 seconds of tension, 5 seconds of rest). Initially, you may feel tired after just a few tensions. Gradually increase the performance to ten repetitions. 

A training session should last a maximum of 10 minutes. The training can be done while standing or walking. If you can hold the Joyballs for over 10 minutes without any problems, you should combine the training with gymnastic pelvic floor training.

Exercising routinely is the key to success

Most women feel an improvement in their symptoms after 2 to 3 weeks if they consistently use pelvic floor exercise balls. Full muscle tone is achieved through training within 6 to 12 weeks. However, the training effect also diminishes over time if the muscles are no longer used. 

Exercising routinely is the key to success. It is recommended that you do the exercise(s) between 3 and 10 times each day. It only takes a few minutes and can be done in different positions (e.g. sitting, standing or lying down). Your pelvic floor will remain in top condition, and bladder problems can be prevented or alleviated.

WARNING

- The Joyballs should be cleaned thoroughly before and after each use.

- If the Joyballs cannot be removed, you must seek medical advice immediately.

- DO NOT keep the Joyballs consecutively inside your body for more than 6 hours.

Under this circumstances, you should stop using the Joyballs:

- Your doctor advises against using it

- During menstruation

- For vaginal inflammation

- In case of vaginal infection

- During vaginal wound healing (e.g. after a perineal incision)

- During and after pregnancy only after consulting your gynecologist or midwife

- All of the Joyballs can be used with water-based and silicone-based lubricants. Oil-based lubricants and cosmetics can degrade the Joyballs’ surface and are therefore unsuitable.
